Decorative Frosting

I don't know about all of you, but this time of year is really hard for me and my kids: it's always raining, cold, and generally unpleasant outside, which makes for a boring and restless household. One of the things we always do to try and break up the monotony is bake and decorate cookies. It's so easy to use, and dries quickly enough that those little fingers won't have time to smudge their designs!

What you'll need:
3 tablespoons of Meringue Powder (which can be skipped, but for flavors sake please don't!)
4 cups of confectioners sugar (which is about a pound)
6 tablespoons of warm water.
Recipe taken from Wiltons

Makes about 3 cups of frosting

This has got to be one of the easiest frostings to make - all you need to do is combine all the ingredients and then mix! I always add a bit of food coloring to give the kids more creative space!

A few words of advice:

If using a hand mixer maybe use a little bit of extra water. The first time I made this at home (and followed the recipe exactly) I actually broke off one of my beaters. This stuff is strong, and not to be pushed against a hand held machine!

If you decide to spread this frosting on the cookie, make sure that whatever utensil you choose to use is free of grease! It does make a huge difference for the frosting, so wipe everything down before using it!

Also, if you're wanting to use a bag to pipe the frosting on, and want really stiff edges simply put in one tablespoon less of water.

Enjoy and make the cookies as bright as can be to rid your house of the mid winter blues!
